Patna (Bihar) [India]: A SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating from Delhi to Shillong was diverted to Patna due to a crack in its windshield. The airline assured passengers that they would be accommodated on an evening flight to Guwahati, from where they would continue to Shillong.
Passenger Concerns
Passengers expressed mixed emotions over the situation. Shweta, one of the passengers, mentioned, “They [airline authorities] said there is a technical glitch. We have been informed about an evening flight to Guwahati, after which we will proceed to Shillong.”
Another passenger, Madhurita, criticized the airlines, emphasizing the need for thorough maintenance. “We were told about a crack in the windshield. All airlines must prioritize safety checks to avoid such incidents,” she said.
Details of the Diversion
The SpiceJet spokesperson clarified that the crack was in one layer of the aircraft’s multi-layered windshield, and the diversion was a precautionary step. “Pressurization was normal throughout the flight, and the landing at Patna was routine,” the spokesperson added.
Another Flight Affected
In addition to the Shillong-bound flight, a SpiceJet aircraft heading from Chennai to Kochi was also diverted back to Chennai due to a technical issue. The spokesperson confirmed that this flight also landed safely, and passengers were deplaned without incident.
Safety Assurance
The airline reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, noting that both flights were handled according to standard protocols. It underscored that diversions were precautionary measures to ensure safety in light of the observed technical issues.
Passengers affected by the disruptions are now awaiting their onward journeys, as airlines work to restore normal operations.
