Los Angeles, CA: Pop superstar Taylor Swift recently shared a deeply personal look into her life over the past few months, which she affectionately dubbed “the summer of my parental upgrades.” In a guest appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, the singer revealed that she spent her time caring for her parents following their respective medical procedures.
Swift, 35, disclosed that she moved in with her father, Scott Swift, after he underwent a quintuple bypass surgery. She called the procedure “really intense” and recalled how doctors were surprised her 73-year-old father was even able to walk into the hospital with five major blockages in his heart. The singer revealed that his condition was detected during a resting stress test, a detail her father is now sharing with friends to encourage preventative care.
“He’s had a healthy, perfect EKG every year that he’s gone in to get his physicals,” she said. “But what found his five hard blockages in his heart was a resting stress test. He’s been telling all his friends, ‘You need to get the stress test,’ because that’s what’s actually preventative. If you can find that earlier, you don’t have to have a bypass surgery.”
Taylor described her father as “the loveliest patient ever,” praising his humor throughout his recovery. She laughed while sharing his witty response to the news that he had five blockages, “Well, you see, I come from a very competitive family.”
In addition to her father’s recovery, Swift revealed that her mother, Andrea Swift, also underwent a procedure to get a new knee. “She’s doing great. She’s scampering around. We’re not quite at scampering yet, but she’s doing great,” Swift said.
Reflecting on the time spent caring for her parents, Swift expressed that it was “one of the most special things that’s ever happened to me.” She cherished the opportunity to have “long talks” with her parents, whom she calls two of her best friends, something that is often difficult to fit into her busy schedule.
