Washington [US], December 6 : Taylor Swift continues to dominate the global music scene, maintaining her position as one of the most-streamed artists for the second consecutive year, according to People. With over 26.6 billion streams, Swift topped the list, followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish in the top five, as per Spotify.
Her album The Tortured Poets Department, released in April during her Eras Tour, became the most-streamed album of 2024. Other top albums of the year included HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish, Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, MANANA SERA BONITO by Karol G, and Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande. Swift has now topped the most-streamed albums list three times, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) and Lover among her other top albums.
Although Swift was the world’s best-selling artist and album, she did not claim the number-one song of the year. That honor went to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” with “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, “Birds of a Feather I” by Eilish, “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris Mj, and “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims rounding out the top five. Swift’s song “Cruel Summer” from Lover ranked ninth among the top ten most-streamed songs globally.
In a heartfelt Instagram Story, Swift expressed her gratitude to her fans, saying, “Top Streamed Artist AND Album on @spotify this year?! You guys are unbelievable,” adding, “What an amazing thing to find out going into our last weekend of Eras shows. THANK YOU!”
This milestone follows Swift’s recognition as the top artist of 2024 by both Amazon Music and Apple Music, where The Tortured Poets Department was also the top-streamed album. “Ahhhhhh thank you for listening to my music and TTPD so much!!!!! You, the fans, made The Tortured Poets Department the TOP STREAMED ALBUM of The Year on @applemusic!!!” Swift wrote in another Instagram post, also thanking fans for securing her position as the top-streamed artist.
Additionally, Swift was recently named Billboard’s second greatest pop star of the 21st century, following Beyoncé. Swift also earned six nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards, which will take place on February 2.
As she wraps up her record-breaking Eras Tour with a final performance in Vancouver on December 8, Swift looks ahead to 2025 with even more achievements on the horizon.
