American pop superstar Taylor Swift has officially opened up about her engagement to NFL tight end Travis Kelce, sharing the story with host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
The 35-year-old singer-songwriter, who appeared on the show on Monday, October 6, confirmed that Kelce popped the question immediately after the couple finished filming their highly anticipated joint episode of his New Heights podcast.
The ‘Magical’ Proposal Ruse
Swift described the moments leading up to the proposal, noting that she should have suspected something was amiss.
“I should’ve known something was off,” Swift laughed. “He was pacing around the house, saying his heart was racing, and he even installed blackout drapes on every single window. I’d never seen this dude nervous. He’s a professional non-nervous person.”
She later understood the strange behavior when she realized Kelce had transformed their backyard into a “magical fairy garden” for the actual proposal. She revealed that the podcast filming was merely a “distraction, a sort of ruse, to keep me from looking out the windows.” Their tour photographer was even secretly hiding in the bushes to capture the moment.
Addressing Super Bowl and Selena Gomez’s Wedding
During the chat, Fallon also asked Swift about the persistent Super Bowl halftime show rumors, which suggested she had turned down the gig due to issues with performance footage. Swift offered a firm “No” to the rumor and provided a clear explanation for her decision:
“Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are close,” she said. “But I’m in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field. This is nothing to do with Travis, he would love for me to do it. I’m just too locked in.”
Swift also touched on her best friend Selena Gomez’s recent wedding to Benny Blanco, noting that she deliberately kept her own good news private during the event.
“I made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” Swift shared. Instead, her speech at the wedding playfully reminisced about their friendship’s beginning in 2008, recalling “the year of deep V-necks and aggressively colorful skinny jeans.”
The interview concluded with a humorous anecdote about how close friend Ed Sheeran learned about the engagement. Swift joked that due to his lack of a working phone, “When the news came out, I was like, oh my god, we forgot to call Ed!”
