Mumbai: Following their historic triumph at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team was formally felicitated by Tata Motors in recognition of their landmark achievement. At a special ceremony held at Bombay House on December 16, Tata Motors announced that each member of the World Cup–winning squad, along with key support staff, will be gifted a Tata Sierra — the company’s newly unveiled SUV positioned as an “icon reimagined”.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by senior Tata Group leadership, including Tata Sons and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra. Their presence highlighted the group’s longstanding association with Indian sport and its commitment to celebrating excellence on the global stage.
Addressing the gathering, Chandrasekaran drew a powerful parallel between India’s 1983 men’s World Cup victory and the women’s team’s breakthrough moment in 2025.
“Every child knew where they were when the world changed in July 1983,” he said, recalling how that triumph inspired generations, including Sachin Tendulkar. “Similarly, November 2, 2025, will be a date a new generation will never forget. The women’s team finally claimed the World Cup they were destined for.”
He praised the team’s fearless approach and collective effort, noting how each victory during the tournament was shaped by different players stepping up at crucial moments.
“They played with joy and passion, making opponents fight for every run and every wicket. Even when rival teams posted big totals, they could never be sure it was enough,” he said, adding that the culture of excellence within the team had been built through years of perseverance, experimentation, setbacks and success.
Chandrasekaran said the team’s achievement would have a lasting impact on India’s youth, teaching lessons in persistence, teamwork and dreaming big. “This women’s team has given the next generation something to aim for — a memory of pure happiness and the ambition to one day surpass it,” he said.
As part of the initiative, Tata Motors confirmed that players will be free to choose the Sierra variant that best suits their preferences, making the recognition both meaningful and personal. The gesture reinforces Tata Motors’ association with aspiration, achievement and national pride, while celebrating one of the most defining moments in Indian women’s cricket.
