Tarn Taran Police have apprehended five members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Amritpal Batth gang, marking a significant breakthrough in combating gang-related violence in Punjab, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.
Arrest and Seizures
The arrested individuals were identified as:
- Gurmeet Singh alias Rawal (Village Bhagwanpur, Batala)
- Harpal Singh (Village Nurpur, Gurdaspur)
- Lovepreet Singh alias NP (Village Nawapind, Amritsar)
- Shamsher Singh alias Shera Passian
- Sandeep Singh alias Goli (Kot Khalsa, Amritsar)
The operation led to the recovery of:
- Four weapons: one USA-made 9MM Glock pistol, two .32 bore pistols, and one country-made pistol.
- Fifteen live cartridges and three magazines.
- A car, used for criminal activities, without a number plate.
Gang Activities and Plans
According to DGP Yadav, the accused confessed during interrogation that the seized weapons were supplied by Jaggu Bhagwanpuria through an associate. The gang was reportedly planning targeted killings under instructions from gangster Amritpal Batth.
The arrested individuals have links to multiple criminal cases, including attempted murder, illegal possession of arms, and gang-related violence. Additionally, valuable leads were obtained about a shooter involved in a recent targeted murder in Tarn Taran.
Details of the Operation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana detailed the operation. Acting on intelligence, a police team led by CIA Incharge Amandeep Singh set up a checkpoint on the Jandiala to Tarn Taran road. They intercepted the suspects’ vehicle and arrested three gang members on the spot. Further interrogation led to the capture of two more gang members.
“This operation is a significant success in our ongoing efforts to curb gang activity in the region,” SSP Rana stated.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered under Section 111(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Tarn Taran. Investigations are ongoing to trace the gang’s network and prevent future criminal activities.
