Tariq Hamid Karra Slams Gandhi’s Assassination, Criticizes Divisive Agenda

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], January 30: On the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Tariq Hamid Karra, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, strongly condemned the assassination of the Father of the Nation, calling it “the murder of humanity” on January 31, 1948. In a sharp critique of the RSS and BJP, Karra accused them of perpetuating a divisive agenda of hatred and failing to condemn Nathuram Godse’s role in Gandhi’s assassination.

“It was not just the murder of a man, it was the murder of humanity,” Karra stated, emphasizing the importance of honoring Gandhian ideology and ensuring that future generations continue to be inspired by his principles. He also expressed concern over the lack of condemnation by the RSS and BJP towards Godse’s actions. “Have they ever condemned Nathuram Godse for his heinous act? On one hand, they call Gandhi the Father of the Nation, but on the other hand, they revere those who killed him,” Karra remarked.

Karra also criticized the RSS-BJP alliance for promoting ideologies rooted in hatred. “We must prepare our young generation to carry forward the Gandhian and Nehruvian philosophies, and not the ideologies of those who spread hatred, like Golwalkar, Savarkar, or Godse,” he stated.

In his address, Karra questioned the government’s performance on economic and foreign policies, accusing them of failure. “Their economic and foreign policies have failed. The GDP growth is lagging, and building roads does not increase a country’s credibility,” he said.

Further, Karra slammed the government’s proposals on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the Waqf Amendment, calling them part of an agenda of hatred. He argued that the focus on such measures ignored the real issues faced by minorities, including Muslims, Dalits, and Christians. “These policies are a reflection of a divisive agenda. They claim Hindus are under threat, but when you have 17 crore Muslims in a country of 140 crore, the real issue lies in their own weaknesses,” Karra stated.

Karra concluded by pointing out the long-standing roots of such divisive policies, saying, “These are the policies of hatred designed by their ancestors decades ago, and today they are determined to execute them at any cost.”
