Taiwan Condemns Inclusion Of ‘One China’ Assertion In Astana Declaration By China And Central Asian Nations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Taipei has strongly condemned the recent Astana Declaration, signed during the second Central Asia-China Summit in Kazakhstan, for asserting the claim that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.

As reported by Focus Taiwan, MOFA criticised the joint statement signed by China and its five Central Asian allies—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—calling the assertion “inaccurate and unacceptable”.

The ministry expressed particular disapproval over Chinese President Xi Jinping’s remarks at the summit, where he reiterated Beijing’s claim that Taiwan remains an indivisible part of China. The ministry stated that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has long exploited international forums to distort Taiwan’s status and deny its sovereignty.

“Neither the ROC (Taiwan) government nor the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is subordinate to the other. The CCP regime has never exercised sovereignty over Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu,” MOFA clarified.

The statement also condemned the five Central Asian nations for endorsing Beijing’s stance, urging them to “cease supporting factually unfounded claims” that destabilise the regional order.

MOFA stressed that Taiwan functions as a fully self-governing democratic state, maintaining its own government, military, and economy independent of Beijing’s control since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949.

Despite this, China continues to push its ‘One China’ principle, diplomatically and militarily pressuring other nations to isolate Taiwan on the world stage. This tactic, Taipei says, is part of a broader strategy to delegitimise Taiwan’s sovereignty in multilateral forums.

The Taiwan-China sovereignty dispute remains one of the most complex geopolitical flashpoints globally, with rising international concern over potential instability in the Indo-Pacific region.

MOFA concluded its statement by reaffirming Taiwan’s determination to uphold its democratic system and global presence despite Beijing’s efforts to undermine it.
