T20 World Cup 2026: Full List Of Captains As 20 Teams Gear Up For Mega ICC Event

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, promises to be one of the most fiercely contested editions in the tournament’s history. Featuring 20 teams and 55 matches, the month-long spectacle will span multiple venues across the subcontinent.

With squads for 19 teams already confirmed, the tournament has gained additional intrigue following Scotland’s inclusion in place of Bangladesh, who withdrew earlier. The focus is now firmly on the captains — the decision-makers tasked with navigating pressure situations, managing bowling rotations, reading varying pitch conditions, and steering their teams through the group stage and the Super 8s.

In Asian conditions, where pitches can change dramatically from venue to venue, leadership and tactical awareness will play a decisive role.

Here’s a team-wise look at all 20 captains set to lead their nations at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026:

1. Suryakumar Yadav (India)

Defending champions India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, who has the opportunity to create history by lifting the T20 World Cup on home soil. With the final scheduled in Ahmedabad, Surya will carry massive expectations as India head into the tournament as clear favourites.

2. Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)

Afghanistan’s talisman Rashid Khan will once again captain the side. With 696 T20 wickets, he is the most successful bowler in the format and currently ranks No. 2 in ICC T20I bowling rankings, making him central to Afghanistan’s hopes.

3. Mitchell Marsh (Australia)

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh for the second consecutive T20 World Cup. An explosive all-rounder, Marsh’s leadership will be crucial, though recurring injuries have limited his bowling workload in recent times.

4. Dilpreet Bajwa (Canada)

At just 23 years old, Dilpreet Bajwa will captain Canada. A right-handed batting all-rounder who bowls off-spin, Bajwa has represented Canada in nine ODIs and 17 T20Is.

5. Harry Brook (England)

One of England’s brightest batting stars, Harry Brook will captain England in an ICC event for the first time. Brook took over white-ball leadership from Jos Buttler in early 2025.

6. Paul Stirling (Ireland)

A stalwart of Irish cricket, Paul Stirling brings immense experience, having played nearly 400 T20 matches and scored 9,067 runs. Ireland’s full-time white-ball captain since 2023, Stirling is known for his power-hitting.

7. Wayne Madsen (Italy)

Italy will make their first-ever ICC World Cup appearance, led by Wayne Madsen. The South Africa-born batter, now 42, has played over 250 First-Class matches, primarily in English county cricket.

8. Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia)

A familiar face at T20 World Cups, Gerhard Erasmus will lead Namibia for the fourth straight edition. The 30-year-old all-rounder has been instrumental in Namibia’s rise on the global stage.

9. Rohit Paudel (Nepal)

Rohit Paudel became Nepal’s captain at a remarkably young age and led them back to the T20 World Cup for the first time since 2014. A batting all-rounder, he remains one of Nepal’s most consistent performers.

10. Scott Edwards (Netherlands)

Australian-born Scott Edwards has captained the Netherlands at multiple ICC events, including famous wins over South Africa at the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup. He is a wicketkeeper-batter.

11. Mitchell Santner (New Zealand)

New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner will aim to end the Blackcaps’ long wait for an ICC title. With 132 T20I wickets, he is among New Zealand’s most reliable performers.

12. Jatinder Singh (Oman)

India-born Jatinder Singh leads Oman and is the country’s leading run-scorer in both ODIs and T20Is. A specialist batter, he has been captain since 2024.

13. Salman Agha (Pakistan)

Salman Agha became Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain in early 2025. A right-handed batter and off-spin bowler, he plays across all three formats.

14. Richie Berrington (Scotland)

Scotland’s late inclusion sees Richie Berrington take charge. The South Africa-born all-rounder has played over 100 matches in both ODIs and T20Is.

15. Aiden Markram (South Africa)

After leading South Africa to the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Aiden Markram will look to go one step further and clinch the Proteas’ maiden title.

16. Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka)

Co-hosts Sri Lanka will be led by Dasun Shanaka, a middle-order all-rounder with 123 T20I appearances.

17. Muhammad Waseem (UAE)

UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem is the team’s most important batter and all-time leading T20I run-scorer with 3,236 runs. UAE have recorded notable wins under his leadership recently.

18. Monak Patel (USA)

Monak Patel will captain the USA for the second straight World Cup. Under his leadership, USA famously defeated Pakistan in the 2024 edition.

19. Shai Hope (West Indies)

One of West Indies’ most consistent batters, Shai Hope will lead and keep wickets for the Caribbean side as they aim to reclaim past T20 glory.

20. Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)

World No.1 ranked T20I all-rounder Sikandar Raza leads Zimbabwe. At 39, this could be his final ICC event as captain, bringing vast experience from 300+ T20 matches worldwide.
