A major police emergency is unfolding in the eastern Sydney suburb of North Bondi following unconfirmed reports of a mass shooting incident. Multiple loud shots were reported by residents on Sunday afternoon, with videos circulating online showing a large presence of police cars converging on an address in the area, amidst the sound of gunfire.
New South Wales (NSW) Police Force has issued an urgent public advisory, urging residents and the public to AVOID the North Bondi area immediately as the incident is actively developing.
The official statement from NSW Police reads:
“Police are responding to a developing incident at Bondi Beach and are urging the public to AVOID the area. Anyone at the scene should take shelter. Police are on scene and more information will be provided when it comes to hand.”
The area near Campbell Parade, which runs alongside Bondi Beach, is reportedly a focal point of the police response. Unconfirmed initial reports indicate multiple people may have sustained gunshot injuries.
Witnesses have reported hearing what sounded like anywhere from a dozen to possibly 50 shots fired. The immediate vicinity has been locked down as specialist police teams are deployed to contain the situation.
More details will be provided as the incident develops and is confirmed by official police sources.
