A man in his 60s in northern Sweden has been accused of helping more than 100 men purchase sexual services from his wife, according to Swedish prosecutors. The suspect was arrested in late October after his wife reported him to the police, and he has remained in custody since then while investigations continue.
Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt told AFP that the man is suspected of facilitating and financially profiting from the sale of his wife’s sexual services, an offence classified under Swedish law as “procuring.” In Sweden, purchasing sex is illegal, while selling sex is not, making the alleged facilitation of prostitution a serious criminal offence.
Authorities are currently examining whether additional crimes were committed but have declined to disclose further details due to the confidentiality of the ongoing investigation. Prosecutors also said it is unclear whether the woman, who is in her 50s, was forced into selling sex or acted voluntarily.
The suspected offences are believed to have taken place between January 2022 and the man’s arrest in 2025. Prosecutors expect to formally press charges on March 13.
Investigators have identified around 120 individuals suspected of buying sexual services, although officials say it is unlikely that all of them will be included in the main investigation. Separate probes into the buyers could be launched once the primary case concludes.
Public broadcaster SVT reported that the suspect has denied the allegations and has a prior criminal record, including convictions for assault and unlawful coercion.
