Calls roadshow and celebrations a “shameless display” as BJP gears up to form the next government
New Delhi, February 9:
Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Sunday took a sharp dig at AAP leader Atishi after she was seen celebrating her victory in the Kalkaji constituency despite her party’s massive defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Maliwal criticized Atishi for holding a victory roadshow and dancing with supporters, calling it inappropriate when AAP has suffered a crushing loss.
“Atishi should be ashamed. Her party has suffered a huge defeat… All their main leaders have lost. Yet, she did a roadshow to celebrate her win and even danced during it… What is she celebrating? Her party’s loss?” Maliwal said.
She further attacked AAP for failing to table the CAG report in the Delhi Assembly, questioning the party’s commitment to transparency.
“The people who came to power to bring the Jan Lokpal did not even implement the existing precedents… The CAG report should be tabled immediately in the Assembly and undergo a strict investigation,” she added.
Maliwal Shares Video of Atishi’s Celebrations, Calls It “Shameless”
Earlier, Maliwal shared a video of Atishi dancing and celebrating with supporters following her victory, calling it a “shameless display” given AAP’s devastating electoral loss.
“What kind of shameless display is this? The party lost, all the big leaders lost, and Atishi Marlena is celebrating like this?” Maliwal posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Atishi Retains Kalkaji, But AAP Suffers Heavy Losses
Atishi secured a hard-fought victory in Kalkaji, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes.
Despite acknowledging her individual win, Atishi conceded AAP’s overall defeat and vowed to continue fighting against BJP.
Her win, however, stands out as several senior AAP leaders, including former CM Arvind Kejriwal and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, lost their seats.
In a major electoral upset, BJP’s Parvesh Verma defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat by over 4,000 votes, dealing a significant blow to AAP’s leadership.
AAP Leadership Collapses, BJP Prepares to Take Over
Following AAP’s defeat, Atishi tendered her resignation as Delhi Chief Minister on Sunday. Shortly after, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly, paving the way for BJP to form the next government in the national capital.
With AAP’s tally plummeting from 62 seats in 2020 to just 22 in 2025, the BJP is set to reclaim power in Delhi after 27 years, marking a major shift in the political landscape.
