14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Records With Historic IPL Century For RR

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India]: In a sensational feat, 14-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on Monday, becoming the youngest-ever player to score a century in both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and T20 cricket.

The left-handed prodigy achieved the milestone against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, delivering an innings for the ages.

Chasing a daunting target of 210 runs, fans witnessed breathtaking strokeplay as Vaibhav hammered 101 off just 38 balls, peppered with seven fours and eleven sixes, striking at a phenomenal rate of 265.79.

Vaibhav’s century came in just 35 balls, making it the second-fastest ton in IPL history, behind only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013. Remarkably, he is now the fastest Indian to score a century in the IPL.

At just 14 years and 32 days old, Vaibhav shattered the record previously held by Vijay Zol, who had scored a T20 century at 18 years and 118 days for Maharashtra in 2013. His blistering century also ranks as the seventh-fastest in global T20 cricket history.

Vaibhav had earlier raced to his fifty in just 17 balls — the fifth-fastest IPL half-century ever — becoming the youngest player to notch an IPL fifty as well.

Partnering with Yashasvi Jaiswal (70 off 40 balls), Vaibhav stitched together a record 166-run opening stand, the highest partnership for any wicket in Rajasthan Royals’ history, surpassing the previous best of 155 runs by Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal against Delhi Capitals in 2022.

Suryavanshi’s IPL journey has been a fairytale so far. Signed for Rs 1.1 crore at the IPL 2024 mega-auction, he made his debut by launching his first-ever ball in IPL for a six off Shardul Thakur. In three matches, he has already accumulated 151 runs at an average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 222.05.

Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar, Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar earlier this year at just 12 years and 284 days old. He also showcased his talent in the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024-25 and made a memorable impact with a 58-ball century against Australia in Chennai for India’s U19 team.

Match Recap:
GT, after being asked to bat first, posted a competitive 209/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from skipper Shubman Gill (84 off 50 balls) and Jos Buttler (50* off 26 balls). Maheesh Theekshana (2/35) was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan Royals.

However, Vaibhav’s record-breaking innings ensured Rajasthan Royals chased down the target with stunning ease, further underlining the arrival of a new cricketing superstar.
