Mumbai Indians (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav opened up about his emotional debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and how he has transformed his game to stay ahead in the ever-evolving T20 format.
In a candid chat with Jio Hotstar, Suryakumar recalled his 2010 debut for MI, saying,
“I barely slept the night before — went to bed around 4 or 5 in the morning. There was so much excitement. Playing for a franchise brings a different kind of buzz. I was just enjoying the moment.”
Reflecting on his IPL 2024 century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Suryakumar emphasized how adapting to modern T20 cricket has been crucial to his success.
“The T20 format has changed a lot — strike rates, scoring patterns. I realized around 2020 that if I wanted to be the best, I had to evolve. I focused on match simulations, targeted specific zones, and reduced risk in scoring areas,” he said.
“Everything I do now in matches, I’ve practiced. That century was a result of that clarity.”
The 35-year-old batter, who has also represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has become a pillar of consistency for Mumbai Indians and will play a key role as MI take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 50 of IPL 2025 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
Current Form:
- Mumbai Indians: 3rd place with 6 wins in 10 matches, riding high with five consecutive victories. They crushed LSG by 54 runs in their last outing.
- Rajasthan Royals: Struggling in 8th place with 3 wins and 7 losses, though boosted by a thrilling victory over Gujarat Titans thanks to 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a match-winning century.
All eyes will be on the battle between form-heavy MI and a resurging RR, with Suryakumar Yadav’s sharp form and leadership in the spotlight.
