Mumbai Cricket Association has announced that Suryakumar Yadav has been included in the squad for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Haryana, scheduled to begin on February 8 at Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Lahli. Ajinkya Rahane will captain the side in the upcoming match.
Mumbai’s squad will be without key players Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are all set to participate in India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against England starting February 6. The inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav in the quarterfinal squad is aimed at providing him with much-needed game time to regain his form, having struggled recently with the bat, scoring 28 runs in five innings against England and only 66 runs in his last 10 innings across all formats of competitive cricket.
In addition to Suryakumar, Shardul Thakur, who is not currently in India’s plans leading up to the ICC Champions Trophy starting on February 19, will also be aiming to continue his impressive run for Mumbai. Thakur was awarded the Player of the Match for his four-wicket hauls in both innings and a crucial knock of 84 runs against Meghalaya. In his seven matches so far, Shardul has taken 24 wickets at an average of 23.95, with best figures of 4/43. With the bat, he has scored 381 runs at an average of 47.62, including a century and three half-centuries, with a strike rate of 101.87.
Shivam Dube, another all-rounder who impressed in India’s recent T20I series against England, will also be a key figure in Mumbai’s lineup. Dube scored 83 runs including a fifty and took two wickets in the two-match T20I series against England.
Mumbai, who finished the league stage in second place in Group A with four wins, two losses, and one draw, will look to continue their momentum in the quarterfinals. They are aiming to secure their record-extending 43rd Ranji Trophy title. One of their notable defeats came at the hands of Jammu and Kashmir, who defeated Mumbai by five wickets despite the presence of players like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur in the lineup.
