Suryakumar Yadav Excited For Mohammed Shami’s Return Ahead Of T20I Series Against England

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed enthusiasm over Mohammed Shami’s return to international cricket. The seasoned pacer is back in the squad after recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Shami, who underwent surgery and was sidelined for over a year, impressed selectors with his performances in domestic cricket. He starred in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy win against Madhya Pradesh with match figures of 7/156 and continued his form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and Vijay Hazare Trophy. In SMAT 2024, he claimed 11 wickets in nine matches at an average of 25.36 and picked up five wickets in three Vijay Hazare games.

Captain’s Praise for Shami

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Suryakumar said:
“It is always good to have an experienced bowler in your side. He is making a comeback after over a year. I am really excited to see him. I have seen his journey and how he was focusing on his bowling and recovery. It is good to see him back.”

With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable due to an injury sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Shami is expected to lead the pace attack alongside Arshdeep Singh in the five-match T20I series against England.
