Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian T20I team, has passed his fitness test at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. This means he can be picked for the Asia Cup. In June, the swashbuckling batter had surgery to fix a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen.
“Before you can return to play (RTP) after surgery, you must pass fitness tests. A BCCI source informed PTI, “Surya has passed the fitness test.”
Yadav had a great IPL 2025 season. He was voted Player of the Series and scored 717 runs, making him only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to hit more than 600 runs for the Mumbai Indians in a single season. His play was a big part of the team’s success in getting to the playoffs.
Yadav is now ready to go to the selection committee meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday since he is back in shape. The UAE will host the Asia Cup from September 9 to 28. India will start their campaign against the hosts on September 10. Their big game versus arch-rivals Pakistan will play on September 14, also in Dubai.
