Suryakumar Hails Tilak Varma’s Nerves of Steel in Thrilling T20I Victory

India’s captain praises Tilak Varma for stepping up under pressure and Ravi Bishnoi for his crucial cameo as India clinch a dramatic second T20I win over England.

Chennai, January 26: India captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed pride in Tilak Varma’s match-winning performance during the second T20I against England at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Tilak’s composed innings of 72* and Ravi Bishnoi’s vital contributions steered India to a thrilling two-wicket victory with four balls to spare.

Tilak’s Calm Under Pressure

The chase reached a tense climax as India needed 20 runs off 18 balls. Tilak initially hesitated to rotate the strike but eventually trusted Bishnoi to handle the pressure. Bishnoi responded with back-to-back boundaries, calming nerves in the stadium and bringing India closer to the target.

In the final over, Tilak sealed the win with a stylish drive, showcasing maturity and responsibility in a high-stakes situation.

“Very happy with the way Tilak batted, good to see someone like him taking responsibility,” said Suryakumar at the post-match presentation.

Bishnoi’s Key Role

Suryakumar also lauded Bishnoi for his batting efforts under pressure. Known for his bowling prowess, Bishnoi’s contributions with the bat reflected his hard work in the nets.

“Ravi Bishnoi has been putting in the hard work in the nets. He wants to contribute with the bat,” the skipper noted.

Bowling Brilliance Sets the Stage

India’s bowlers laid the groundwork for victory by restricting England to 165/9 on a surface where 180 was considered par. The disciplined bowling effort provided a manageable target, even as the chase became a nail-biter.

“A little bit of relief. The way the game was going, we felt 160 was good, but the way they bowled, it was good that the game went down to the wire,” said Suryakumar.

Aggression and Small Partnerships Key to Win

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, India’s batters maintained their aggressive approach. Crucial partnerships throughout the chase kept the team in contention.

“The chat was to play like the last game. Good to see we are playing an aggressive brand of cricket. At the same time, the guys put their hands up and stitched small partnerships,” Suryakumar explained.

The Indian captain highlighted the positive atmosphere in the dressing room and the team’s commitment to their attacking game plan.

“There will be days it won’t come off, but we know what we want to do. If we are on the same page, good things will take place,” he concluded.

India now leads the five-match series 2-0, with the next T20I promising more action and drama.
