New Delhi (India): Suresh K. Reddy has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Egypt, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday.
Ambassador Reddy, a member of the 1991 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Brazil. He assumed charge as Ambassador to Brazil on September 13, 2020.
Reddy has had a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service, with previous postings in Cairo, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, and Islamabad. He has also served as India’s Ambassador to Iraq and has represented India in ASEAN.
Notably, in 2014, Ambassador Reddy was appointed as Special Envoy of the Government of India to Iraq, where he worked on issues related to the safety, welfare, and evacuation of Indian nationals.
In his career at the Ministry of External Affairs, he has held crucial positions, including Head of Office of the Minister of State for External Affairs and engaged in bilateral relations with neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
He also established and headed the first ASEAN Multilateral Economic Relations Division, playing a key role in the establishment of the BIMSTEC Secretariat. Additionally, he managed issues related to ASEM, ACD, and APEC.
From December 2018 to January 2020, Reddy headed the Multilateral Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of External Affairs and served as India’s Sous Sherpa to G20, G7, BRICS, and IBSA.
Since January 2020, as Additional Secretary (Europe), he has coordinated India’s engagement with Europe and Central Asia.
Ambassador Reddy is expected to take up his new assignment in Egypt shortly.
