Superhero Showdown: ‘Superman’ Soars Past ‘Fantastic Four’ In Box Office Battle

GLOBAL movie OFFICE — The summer of 2025 started with a huge battle between comic book giants at the global movie office. David Corenswet’s Superman and Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby’s The Fantastic Four: The First Steps fought head-to-head. Both movies were highly anticipated and came out just two weeks apart. They both had a lot of buzz and great preview screenings, which set the stage for an exciting commercial battle. Both have done well, but the first data show that the Man of Steel won by a small margin.

James Gunn’s Superman, which stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, came out on July 11, 2025. Box Office Mojo says that the first movie in the DC Universe made a strong $125 million at the North American box office on its first weekend. The movie made another $95 million globally, raising its total for the opening weekend to a huge $220 million.

Superman has continued to do well, breaking the $500 million mark worldwide after two weeks in theaters as on July 29, 2025. It has made $289.5 million in the US and $213.2 million in other countries, for a total of $502.7 million around the world. David Corenswet plays the main character in the movie, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, starring Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, came out two weeks later, on July 25, 2025. The highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie made a robust $118 million in its first weekend in the US. The movie opened in 52 international markets and made a lot of money, bringing in $100 million from overseas and $218 million worldwide.

This opening makes The Fantastic Four: The First Steps the 37th MCU movie to top the box office. It also helps Disney exceed $3 billion in global ticket sales in 2025, making it the first studio to do so.

When you look at the numbers from the first weekend, it’s evident that Superman beat The Fantastic Four: The First Steps by a small amount. The Fantastic Four made $218 million in its first weekend, while Superman made $220 million over the world.

In the next few weeks, The Fantastic Four will need to keep up its pace and see how well it does versus other movies. Its long-term success will definitely affect the destiny of the rebooted franchise in the huge Marvel Cinematic Universe.
