Bollywood megastar Salman Khan is reportedly redefining his cinematic trajectory as he enters his 60th year, moving away from traditional “masala” entertainers toward experimental, high-concept storytelling. The actor has greenlit two major projects that will see him collaborate with South Indian superstars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nayanthara.
The “Retiring” Superhero: Salman Joins Raj & DK
Salman is in advanced talks with the acclaimed director duo Raj & DK (The Family Man, Farzi) for a “quirky” superhero comedy.

- The Concept: Inspired by high-concept Hollywood films like Hancock, the story follows a “weary” superhero who is desperate to retire. However, circumstances and a global threat repeatedly pull him back into the fray.
- The Leading Lady: Samantha Ruth Prabhu has emerged as the frontrunner for a key role. Having worked with the directors on The Family Man 2 and Citadel: Honey Bunny, her “strong creative equation” with them makes her the primary choice to match the film’s eccentric tone.
- Production Status: The project is being mounted on a grand scale by Mythri Movie Makers and Reel Life Productions, with filming expected to commence in November 2026.
The Pan-India Spectacle: First-Time Pairing with Nayanthara
Before stepping into his superhero suit, Salman will lead a high-octane action thriller produced by Telugu veteran Dil Raju.
- Director: National Award winner Vamshi Paidipally (Maharshi, Varisu).
- Cast Update: Reports confirm that Nayanthara is the frontrunner for the female lead, marking the first-ever on-screen collaboration between the two superstars.
- Timeline: This project is scheduled to go on floors in April 2026.
Salman Khan’s 2026 Release Calendar
Amidst these new signings, Salman is also preparing for his immediate patriotic release:
- Battle of Galwan: Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, this war epic is slated for an August 14, 2026 release to coincide with Independence Day.
- Sikandar: His most recent release (March 2025) continues to perform well in international markets.
