MUMBAI: In a candid and heartfelt conversation on Soha Ali Khan’s new podcast, “All About Her,” actress Sunny Leone has made a striking revelation about her journey to motherhood, admitting that her decision to use a surrogate was intentional because she did not want to be pregnant herself.
Leone, who is a mother to three children—adopted daughter Nisha and twin boys Noah and Asher born via surrogacy—opened up about the various paths to parenthood. When asked by Soha if her choice to go for surrogacy was deliberate, Sunny responded, “Yeah, I did not.”
The actress also shared details about the financial arrangements, revealing that she and her husband, Daniel Weber, paid a significant sum to the surrogate mother. “We paid a weekly fee. Her husband also got money to take off days. So, she would get money for that,” Sunny explained. She added that the payment was so substantial that the surrogate mother was able to buy a house and have a large, beautiful wedding.
A Journey of Both Adoption and Surrogacy
Leone’s path to parenthood has been a mix of adoption and surrogacy. She shared that the day they applied for adoption, they were also starting the IVF process for surrogacy, and on that very day, they were matched with their daughter, Nisha. This unexpected turn of events, she said, was a sign from above. She has previously spoken about the struggles and heartbreak of failed IVF and surrogacy attempts before their twin boys were born, calling the outcome “God’s plan.”
Soha Ali Khan, the host of the podcast, praised Sunny for her honesty, noting that society often places immense pressure on women to conceive naturally and that it’s important to celebrate the many ways to build a family.
On the professional front, Sunny Leone was recently seen in Anurag Kashyap’s film Kennedy, which received critical acclaim. She is also set to reunite with director Vikram Bhatt for a new supernatural thriller series titled Betrayal, which will be released on an OTT platform.
