Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 11: Sunny Deol’s signature action flair is back in full force, as his latest film ‘Jaat’ lit up cinema screens nationwide with an impressive opening. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the high-octane action drama earned ₹9.62 crore nett in India on its first day, surpassing industry expectations.
Released on Thursday to coincide with the Mahavir Jayanti holiday, the film initially saw modest advance bookings, with ticket sales beginning only a day prior. However, strong spot bookings in mass-market territories turned the tide, especially at single screens.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s performance update on X (formerly Twitter), stating,
“#Jaat picked up momentum with each passing hour – exceeding industry expectations pegged around ₹7 crore. While urban centres saw low occupancy, #Jaat had excellent footfalls at single screens in mass belts.”
Adarsh also projected that if multiplexes outside metro cities join the trend, Jaat could achieve a robust lifetime collection. While Friday may see a minor dip due to being a working day, the Baisakhi weekend and Ambedkar Jayanti holiday on Monday are expected to bring a major boost.
Backed by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, Jaat features a stellar cast including Randeep Hooda, Viineet Kumar Singh, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu in key roles.
Randeep Hooda, who portrays the menacing Ranatunga, shared an emotional note on social media thanking fans for their overwhelming response to his performance.
“Playing such a menacing character and still being embraced with appreciation has been truly humbling. Huge thanks to my visionary director @yoursgopichand and to Sunny Deol Paaji — so full of fire and yet so grounded.”
Randeep also expressed gratitude to his co-stars and the production teams, calling the journey “raw, challenging, and deeply fulfilling.” He even treated fans to a fun BTS image with Sunny Deol, where the duo can be seen flexing their biceps — a nod to Sunny’s iconic “dhai kilo ka haath” legacy.
With the extended weekend ahead, all eyes are on Jaat to see if it continues its box office juggernaut.
