The legal battle over the Sona Comstar empire has intensified as Rani Kapur, mother of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, approached the Delhi High Court. She has accused her daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of orchestrating a “complex web of illegal transactions” to divert the family’s multi-billion dollar estate into a fraudulent trust.
The Core Allegations
Rani Kapur, the widow of Sona Group founder Dr. Surinder Kapur, alleges that she was stripped of her inheritance and controlling stakes in the company through the “RK Family Trust” (purportedly created in 2017).
Exploitation of Medical Condition: Rani alleges that after she suffered a stroke in September 2017, Sunjay and Priya Kapur exploited her physical dependence to transfer her assets without her informed consent.
Forgery & Fraud: The suit claims that signatures on the trust deed were forged or obtained on blank papers. Rani states she was misled into believing the new trust was merely a renamed version of her existing, legitimate trusts (Dr. SK Family Trust and MK Family Trust).
Exclusion from Benefits: Under the contested trust, Rani Kapur was allegedly excluded from all benefits, with the estate passing to Sunjay during his lifetime and subsequently to Priya and her children.
A “Mysterious” Demise
The dispute has been further clouded by the sudden death of Sunjay Kapur on June 12, 2025, at the age of 53.
The Incident: Sunjay reportedly collapsed during a polo match in the UK, with reports suggesting he suffered a fatal heart attack or anaphylactic shock.
Suspicion: In her filings, Rani Kapur describes the circumstances of his death as “mysterious and unexplained,” prompting her to investigate the family’s financial affairs more closely.

The legal suit names 23 defendants, including Priya Kapur and Sunjay’s children from his previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor (Samaira and Kiaan).
