Sunjay Kapur, Ex-Husband of Karisma Kapoor and Sona Comstar Chairman, Passes Away At 53 In England

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 13 – Industrialist and Sona Comstar Chairman Sunjay Kapur, former husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away in England on June 12 at the age of 53, following a sudden heart attack. The incident reportedly occurred after he accidentally swallowed a bee during a polo match, a rare and tragic circumstance.

In the wake of his passing, Karisma Kapoor was visited late Thursday night by her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan at her Mumbai residence. Kareena, visibly emotional, avoided the media while offering support to her sister during this deeply distressing time.

Sunjay and Karisma were married until their divorce was finalized in 2016, after filing for mutual consent in 2014. The couple shares two children: Samaira (born 2005) and Kiaan (born 2011). Post-divorce, Sunjay went on to marry Priya Sachdev.

The news of his untimely demise was confirmed by his friend and industrialist Suhel Seth, who shared the update on his X handle, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England… Om Shanti,” he wrote.

Sona Comstar, the company Sunjay led, issued a heartfelt tribute via their official X account, mourning the loss of a “visionary leader” who played a key role in transforming the firm into a global mobility technology powerhouse.

“A visionary leader, Mr. Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose. His passion, foresight, and relentless commitment to excellence inspired everyone who had the privilege of working with him,” the statement read.

In a poignant twist, one of Sunjay Kapur’s final posts on X, shared just hours before his death, expressed grief over the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, showing empathy for the victims’ families.
