Sukanta Majumdar Alleges TMC-Backed Mob Attack In Diamond Harbour, Flags ‘Breakdown Of Law And Order’ To LS Speaker

New Delhi [India], June 20: Union Minister and BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging a violent attack on him in the Budge Budge area of Diamond Harbour, West Bengal. He claimed the incident was orchestrated by “TMC-backed” criminal mobs and accused the West Bengal police of inaction.

Taking to X, Majumdar said the state police “stood as mute, spineless spectators” during the assault. “Even when a Union Minister of State and sitting Member of Parliament was targeted, the state machinery looked the other way. This is a grave breach of parliamentary privilege—a direct and dangerous assault on Indian democracy,” he wrote.

The BJP MP stated that there were clear indications of escalating tensions in the area, but the police failed to take any preventive steps. “The police not only failed to act during the violence—they also failed to take any preventive action,” he added.

Majumdar, who was visiting the area to meet an injured BJP worker, claimed that stones, bricks, and shoes were hurled at him. “I will inform the Home Ministry about this entire situation. They are doing such acts to destroy democracy,” he told the media.

He also alleged that the crowd involved in the attack included individuals “from Bangladesh” and accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of sponsoring the violence.

Recounting an earlier incident, he said BJP workers had been abducted and brutally beaten after attending an all-party meeting organized by the Block Development Officer. “There is no law and order in the state. The police did nothing to disperse the rioters,” he added.

The incident adds fuel to the ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, where clashes between the BJP and TMC have escalated in recent weeks.
