Suhas Shetty Murder Case: Karnataka Forms Four Teams To Nab Killers, Prohibitory Orders Imposed In Mangaluru

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed on Friday that four dedicated teams have been formed to apprehend the suspects involved in the murder of rowdy sheeter Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru.

Speaking to the media, Parameshwara said, “We have taken this very seriously. Four separate teams are tracking the culprits. Peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada will not be compromised by such acts.”

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM on Thursday when Suhas Shetty—the main accused in the 2022 Fazil murder case—was travelling in a vehicle with five others. A group of five to six unidentified assailants, traveling in two vehicles, intercepted them and attacked Shetty with deadly weapons. He was rushed to AJ Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police and Government Response

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed that a murder case has been registered and that multiple teams are investigating. “It is too early to confirm the motive. We have imposed prohibitory orders and stepped up patrolling to maintain order,” he said.

To ensure peace, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), 2023 were issued from 6:00 AM on April 25 to 6:00 AM on May 6, 2025.

The Bajrang Dal called for a city bandh shortly after the murder. Police reported minor incidents of stone-pelting on buses, but quick deployment of security forces helped bring the situation under control.

Background and Communal Sensitivities

Suhas Shetty’s involvement in the high-profile Fazil murder—a case that stirred communal tension—has added a sensitive dimension to his killing. While the motive remains under investigation, authorities are treating the case with urgency due to its potential to disrupt communal harmony.

Citizens have been urged to maintain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.
