Kolkata: A Class 10 student in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was found hanging from the ceiling of her room in Sonarpur after her AI-generated nude images were circulated on social media, police said on Friday.
The girl had been staying at her maternal uncle’s home. According to police, she was discovered on Thursday night and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
A police officer confirmed that the family has filed a complaint naming a married man from the locality. “We have received a complaint alleging that a married man from the area had been harassing her,” the officer said.
According to the complaint, the man allegedly collected the girl’s photographs and used AI-based tools to create explicit, morphed images. These were reportedly shared online, causing severe mental distress to the minor.
The family also accused members of the man’s family of being involved in the harassment. They have demanded strict legal action against all individuals responsible.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the teenager may have died by suicide due to prolonged psychological trauma linked to the harassment and online abuse, the police officer added.
