Steve Smith Predicts Three Australia Players Will Join 10,000-Test Runs Club

Galle [Sri Lanka], January 30: Australian batting legend Steve Smith, who recently entered the exclusive 10,000 Test runs club, has backed three of his teammates to achieve the same remarkable feat in the future.

On the opening day of the first Test between Australia and Sri Lanka in Galle, Smith became the fourth Australian player to reach the 10,000-run milestone, joining the ranks of cricket greats Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting.

After completing the landmark single on his first ball, Smith stood in appreciation, soaking in the applause from the Australian fans in the stands. He raised his bat in acknowledgment, before sharing a heartfelt embrace with teammate Usman Khawaja.

When asked about which current Australian players could join him in the 10,000-run club, Smith named Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, and rising star Sam Konstas as potential candidates.

“I think there are a few people who could definitely achieve it. Marnus (Labuschagne) is already halfway there. Travis (Head) potentially. And (Sam) Konstas, at just 19, could have a long career ahead,” Smith said thoughtfully.

Among the trio, Labuschagne has been the most prolific, having scored 4,346 runs in 55 matches at an impressive average of 47.23. Head, an established middle-order batsman, has accumulated 3,621 runs in 54 Tests at an average of 43.10. Konstas, despite his youth, made an explosive start to his Test career, debuting against India last month and impressing with a 60-run knock in his first innings, showcasing his aggressive style.

While the future remains bright for these players, Smith’s words highlight the depth of talent in Australian cricket that could continue the tradition of reaching the prestigious 10,000 Test runs mark.
