Steel Arch Collapse Kills Nine Migrant Workers At Ennore Power Station Site

Nine migrant workers died when a steel bridge fell at the site of the Ennore Thermal Power Station near Chennai on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu. All of the dead were migrant workers from Assam.

Eyewitness Report and Information About the Collapse

A worker at the site talked about the scary moments that led up to the catastrophe. The worker, who said he was new to the site, told the media about how quickly the disaster happened.

“I’m new here. I don’t know what that part of the arch is called very well. But it was the link in the center. “All of a sudden, there was a noise, and that middle part fell out. Then everything else just fell apart,” the worker said.

The sad event happened when workers were building an addition to the North Chennai Thermal Power Station in the Minjur area of the Thiruvallur district. Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, the head of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), acknowledged the disaster. He said that the victims were from Assam and nearby places and that one other person was hurt. People from BHEL, the company doing the work, arrived on the site right away. The police are looking into what caused the building to fall down.

Efforts to pay and bring people back home

The governments of Tamil Nadu and Assam both said they will take measures right away after the accident.

On social media site X, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said he was very sad about the deaths. He said that each of the nine dead workers’ families would get ₹10 lakh in compensation.

Stalin further said that he told Electricity Minister Thiru. Sivasankar and TANGEDCO Chairman Thiru. Radhakrishnan to go to the spot right away to do the necessary relief work and make sure that the dead are sent back to their home state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government is working closely with the Tamil Nadu government to get the bodies of the victims returned as soon as possible.

CM Sarma said that four of the victims were from Karbi Anglong District and five were from Hojai District. He also named the nine people who died: Munna Kemprai, Sorbojit Thausen, Phaibit Fanglu, Bidayum Porbosa, Paban Sorong, Prayanto Sorong, Suman Kharikap, Dimaraj Thousen, and Dipak Raijung.
