High-speed, uninterrupted internet set to transform cities and remote areas across Bangladesh
Dhaka [Bangladesh], March 9 – In a major step toward digital connectivity, several Bangladeshi firms have partnered with Elon Musk’s Starlink to establish ground earth stations in the country, officials confirmed on Saturday. The collaboration is expected to enhance internet infrastructure, particularly in remote regions, free from the constraints of load shedding and natural disasters.
The U.S. telecommunications giant’s team is currently visiting Bangladesh to assess potential locations, with discussions underway regarding site selection and implementation. Some local firms have already allocated their own properties, while others are exploring options within Hitech Park.
“It will ensure uninterrupted and high-quality service. Since the coverage of telecom-grade fiber networks in Bangladesh is limited, Starlink will accelerate the daily activities and digital economic initiatives of our entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and SME businesspeople,” said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.
Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, personally invited Elon Musk to visit the country and launch Starlink satellite services. In a letter dated February 19, Yunus highlighted the transformative impact the technology would have on young Bangladeshis, particularly those in rural and underserved areas.
The Chief Adviser’s High Representative, Khalilur Rahman, is actively coordinating with SpaceX to ensure Starlink’s launch in Bangladesh within 90 working days. This follows an extensive telephonic discussion between Yunus and Musk on February 13, where they explored avenues for future collaboration.
With this initiative, Bangladesh is poised to become one of the first South Asian nations to leverage Starlink’s advanced satellite network, bringing reliable, high-speed internet to businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities across the country.
