Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Requests Meeting With PM Modi Over Delimitation Concerns

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a meeting to present a memorandum on the concerns surrounding the proposed delimitation.

Collective Political Effort

CM Stalin, accompanied by MPs from various political parties, seeks to convey their unified stance on the issue, emphasizing its importance for Tamil Nadu’s representation.

His request follows resolutions passed by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in Chennai, which advocate for fair delimitation in the state.

Stalin’s Letter to PM Modi

The letter states:

“Vanakkam. I extend warm greetings from Tamil Nadu and hope this letter finds you well. I write to request an audience with you, along with select Members of Parliament from various political affiliations, to present a Memorandum on Delimitation that emerged from our recent deliberations.”

The letter further highlights that:

  • The first-ever JAC meeting on fair delimitation was held in Chennai on March 22, 2025.
  • The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior leaders from multiple states and political backgrounds.
  • The issue of parliamentary representation should transcend political divides and ensure fairness for all citizens.

The Call for Transparency

Stalin emphasized the urgency of addressing the concerns, urging the Central Government to schedule an early meeting.

“As this issue holds significant importance to our states and citizens, I kindly request a meeting with you to formally submit the Memorandum on behalf of the Joint Action Committee. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response at the earliest.”

Joint Action Committee’s Stance

The March 22 JAC meeting in Chennai, chaired by Stalin, brought together:

  • Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar
  • Telangana CM Revanth Reddy
  • Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
  • Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
  • Other prominent political leaders

Following the meeting, the committee unanimously passed a resolution stating:

“Any delimitation exercise carried out by the Centre should be done transparently and only after thorough discussions with all stakeholders.”

Why is Delimitation Important?

Delimitation refers to redrawing electoral constituencies based on population shifts. The concerns in Tamil Nadu stem from fears that a new demographic-based seat distribution could impact the state’s political representation.

Conclusion

CM Stalin’s outreach to PM Modi highlights the growing regional concerns over delimitation. With support from multiple states and political leaders, Tamil Nadu is pushing for a transparent and fair approach to the process. The response from the Central Government remains awaited.
