Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has strongly criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his recent remarks on the delimitation issue and the three-language policy.
Responding to CM Yogi’s comments made in an interview with media, Stalin took to social media, stating that Tamil Nadu’s firm stance on the two-language policy and fair delimitation has “rattled” the BJP.
In a sharp rebuttal, Stalin described CM Yogi’s remarks on the language dispute and delimitation as a “political black comedy.”
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister clarified that the state is not opposing any specific language but rather fighting against “language imposition” and “chauvinism,” framing the issue as a struggle for “dignity and justice.”
“Tamil Nadu’s fair and firm voice on #TwoLanguagePolicy and #FairDelimitation is echoing nationwide–and the BJP is clearly rattled. Just watch their leaders’ interviews. And now Hon’ble Yogi Adityanath wants to lecture us on hate? Spare us. This isn’t irony–it’s political black comedy at its darkest. We don’t oppose any language; we oppose imposition and chauvinism. This isn’t riot-for-votes politics. This is a battle for dignity and justice,” Stalin posted on X.
CM Yogi Adityanath Calls Stalin’s Stand “Narrow Politics”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier criticized Stalin over the three-language policy, accusing him of indulging in “narrow politics.”
In an interview with media, CM Yogi argued that Stalin was attempting to create divisions based on region and language due to concerns over his vote bank. He stressed that language should serve as a unifying force rather than a divisive one, highlighting Tamil as one of India’s oldest and most culturally significant languages.
CM Yogi further emphasized the need for national unity and inclusivity, rejecting the notion that language could be a tool for division.
“I believe this is the message conveyed by our National Anthem as well. This is merely narrow politics. When these people feel their vote bank is at risk, they try to create divisions based on region and language. The people of this country should always be alert to such divisive politics and stand firm for the unity of the country,” CM Yogi Adityanath said.
Ongoing Delimitation Dispute
The three-language row has intensified tensions between the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government over the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. CM Yogi dismissed Stalin’s concerns regarding delimitation, calling them a “political agenda.”
“Look, the Home Minister has stated this very clearly on this matter. This is Stalin’s political agenda under the guise of the meeting. I believe that after the Home Minister’s statement, no questions should arise on this issue,” he said.
On March 22, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, leading the first Joint Action Committee (JAC), urged the central government not to “penalize” states that have effectively implemented population control measures.
The committee also passed a resolution on delimitation, voicing concerns over the “lack of transparency and clarity” from the Union government.
