Mumbai, India – At the preview launch of his son Aryan Khan’s debut web series, The Ba*ds of Bollywood, superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared a candid and humorous anecdote about his initial reaction to the project. While now full of praise for the show’s “bold concept and fresh storytelling,” SRK revealed that when Aryan first described the show as a “raw and edgy” take on Bollywood, he had a moment of genuine apprehension.
“When Aryan told me he was going to do a show about Bollywood, which is raw, edgy, with a bit of madness,” Shah Rukh quipped, “For a moment, I thought he might upload Mannat’s CCTV footage on YouTube!” The joke was met with laughter from the crowd, but Shah Rukh then went on to express his sincere admiration for the series.
“But he’s actually working on something unique and fresh,” he added. “I’ll be honest—it took me a little while to catch the tone of the show, but once I did, I was completely drawn in. And honestly, I’m really happy about it.”
The preview of the show, which was unveiled earlier this week, instantly created a buzz for its gritty and unconventional narrative. While his father famously spoke of “pyaar” (love) in his iconic roles, Aryan’s voiceover in the teaser flips the script, focusing on “vaar” (attack), hinting at a story filled with action and intensity.
The show, which is a fictional, self-aware dramedy, is produced by Gauri Khan‘s Red Chillies Entertainment. It marks Aryan Khan’s official debut as a writer and showrunner, alongside co-creators and writers Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan.
The ensemble cast includes lead actors Sahher Bambba and Lakshya, with a star-studded lineup of special appearances. The show is set to premiere on Netflix on September 18, and according to reports, it will also feature cameos from several prominent Bollywood figures, including Bobby Deol, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, and Shah Rukh Khan himself, who has confirmed his participation. The show also reportedly features cameos by Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh.
