Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 1: The trailer of Anupam Kher’s upcoming directorial Tanvi The Great has received an outpouring of praise from fans and Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor, building excitement ahead of the film’s July 18 theatrical release.
The film follows the story of Tanvi Raina, a young autistic woman determined to join the Indian Army and fulfil her late father’s dream of saluting the Indian flag at Siachen.
Taking to X, Shah Rukh Khan applauded Kher’s bold storytelling, writing, “To my friend @AnupamPKher who has always taken chances… whether it’s acting, filmmaking or life!! The trailer of #TanviTheGreat is looking awesome. All the best on this journey!!” Kher responded with heartfelt gratitude, reposting Khan’s message and captioning it, “Thank you, my dearest friend, for your love and appreciation.”

Anil Kapoor also shared his admiration, calling the film “powerful, heartfelt, and deeply inspiring” and adding, “Some stories stay with you long after the screen fades to black… #TanviTheGreat is one of them. All my prayers and luck for the success of this labour of love.”
Tanvi The Great has already made waves internationally, earning a standing ovation at its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film continued its festival run with screenings at the New York Indian Film Festival, Houston, and Austin, where it was lauded for both its narrative and performances. Notably, Oscar winner Robert De Niro attended its gala screening in New York.
Anupam Kher said the film is about “igniting the goodness in human beings,” something he feels has been lost in today’s fast-paced world. “We all believe in goodness… but situations have made us forget it. When people watch this film, those original emotions return,” he shared, noting audiences’ emotional reactions to the music by Academy Award winner M. M. Keeravani.
The film marks the debut of Shubhangi Dutt, who plays 21-year-old Tanvi Raina. Dutt revealed her surprise at landing such a powerful, socially driven role in her first film, saying, “We’ve all grown up watching typical Bollywood stories, but something like this… I never saw it coming. Even ten years from now, I don’t think anything can match Tanvi The Great. This will always be special.”
Kher emphasized the film’s exploration of the “universal problem” of the underrepresentation and misunderstanding of individuals with autism, adding, “It’s a film from India, for the world.”
Tanvi The Great also stars Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, and Karan Tacker in significant roles. The film is backed by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), with global distribution managed by Excel Entertainment and AA Films.
The nationwide theatrical release is set for July 18, 2025.
