Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), December 11: As temperatures plummet below freezing, a cold wave continues to grip the Kashmir Valley, disrupting daily life. In Srinagar, temperatures have dipped to -3°C, with chilly conditions affecting both residents and tourists.
Tourists visiting Srinagar were caught off guard by the intense cold. Adil, a photographer from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, who traveled to Kashmir for a pre-wedding shoot, remarked, “The weather is colder than we expected, but it’s perfect for a shoot.” Adil, on his fourth visit to Kashmir, said, “For those of us from Rajasthan, it’s much colder here, but the experience is unique. I recommend visiting Kashmir in both winter and summer to fully appreciate its natural beauty.”
Another tourist, Lalit from Jalore, Rajasthan, shared his appreciation for the local scenery: “The weather is great, and Dal Lake is absolutely stunning. Don’t miss a Shikara ride—it’s a must.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted a partly overcast sky for December 10, with a maximum temperature of 10°C and a low of -2°C. Both locals and tourists have been braving the cold by bundling up in heavy winter clothing and using various heating methods.
Srinagar in winter offers a magical experience, with its picturesque snow-capped mountains, cultural traditions, and scenic landscapes drawing tourists from across the country. Meanwhile, Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, is also experiencing heavy snowfall, adding to the winter charm.
The heights of Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh were covered in snow on Sunday, while the Machil sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district also saw fresh snowfall. The beauty of these snow-covered regions not only lies in their visual appeal but also in the peaceful and serene atmosphere they provide.
The IMD has issued a cold wave warning for several regions across northern and central India, including Gilgit-Baltistan, West Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Muzaffarabad, which are expected to experience severe cold conditions on December 11. Other regions such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh are also under similar warnings, with the cold wave expected to persist until December 14. West Uttar Pradesh is likely to continue facing cold wave conditions until December 13.
