Netflix has released the gripping first six minutes of Squid Game Season 3, giving fans an emotional and shocking glimpse into the final chapter of the record-breaking Korean series.
Ahead of the official premiere on Friday, June 27, the clip — shared via Netflix Tudum — reveals the shocking return of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456, long thought to be dead by fellow survivors.
Player 456 Is Reborn
In the released footage, Gi-hun is dramatically resurrected from a coffin styled as a gift box, sending shockwaves through the remaining contestants. Emotionally shattered, Gi-hun begs the guards to kill him, unable to cope with the aftermath of past losses, especially the death of a close friend.
Meanwhile, a search team is seen exploring an island where people have mysteriously disappeared, setting up dual storylines that will likely intersect later in the season.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk on Gi-hun’s Return
Explaining the narrative decision, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Tudum:
“For Front Man, sending Gi-hun back to the game — rather than killing him — makes sense. He wants Gi-hun to really feel and understand the heavy price of his own mistakes. Front Man wants Gi-hun to be driven to a state where he will finally give up his faith in humanity as well as faith in himself. It’s important for the Front Man that Gi-hun returns to the game.”

Lead actor Lee Jung-jae shared his insights on his character’s rebirth:
“When the coffin is opened, Gi-hun is reborn. He has to go back to the competition, play the game again, and make choices again.”
