Washington DC [US], July 19: Fans of the beloved animated Spider-Man franchise will have to wait a bit longer. Sony Pictures has officially delayed the release of ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ by three weeks, moving the film’s debut from June 4, 2027 to June 25, 2027, Deadline reported.
The highly anticipated third installment will continue the multiverse adventure of Miles Morales and his fellow web-slingers. The last film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Miles trapped in an alternate universe and confronted by a darker version of himself—The Prowler.
The upcoming film will follow Miles on the run, as familiar characters like Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker attempt to bring him back and restore balance to the multiverse. The slight delay allows additional production time, especially after setbacks caused by the industry-wide strikes in 2023.
The franchise has received widespread acclaim, with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) winning an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and both films collectively earning over $1.08 billion worldwide.
‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, and written by David Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller also serve as producers alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh.
In addition to the Spider-Verse update, Sony also announced the release of a new animated film titled ‘Buds’, now scheduled for March 12, 2027.
