Speedster Mayank Yadav Returns To LSG Squad Ahead Of IPL 2025 Clash With Rajasthan Royals

New Delhi [India], April 16: In a major boost for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), right-arm pacer Mayank Yadav has rejoined the squad ahead of their high-stakes IPL 2025 clash against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), scheduled for Saturday in Jaipur.

The 22-year-old speedster, known for consistently clocking speeds above 150 kmph, has completed his rehabilitation from a back injury and is likely to be included in the playing XI, as per an ESPNcricinfo report. His return comes at a crucial juncture in the season, with LSG looking to solidify their playoff chances in their eighth match of the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The LSG franchise welcomed Mayank with a heartwarming gesture, sharing a video on social media showing him receiving a cheerful reception from hotel staff at the team’s base. In the video, Mayank is seen interacting with staff and signing autographs, marking his return with optimism and fanfare.

Mayank had been sidelined since October 2024 after suffering a back injury during his international debut series against Bangladesh, where he featured in three T20Is. He subsequently missed the domestic season and underwent recovery at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Just ten days ago, LSG head coach Justin Langer confirmed Mayank’s recovery progress, stating he was bowling at “90 to 95 per cent intensity” and would soon rejoin the camp.

The young pacer made an explosive entry into the IPL last season, bagging Player of the Match honors twice in his first three appearances, troubling even seasoned batters with his pace and precision. He claimed seven wickets in four matches before an abdominal strain forced him out of the tournament. A second injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy further delayed his return.

With his raw pace and fiery spells, Mayank’s return is expected to strengthen LSG’s bowling attack, which has lacked bite in his absence.
