Bardhaman (West Bengal) [India], February 21: Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has revealed that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will portray him in his much-anticipated biopic. Speaking to the media, Ganguly confirmed, “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role)…but there are issues of dates…so it will take more than a year to hit the screens.”
Ganguly, who played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India, had an illustrious career scoring 18,575 runs across all formats. As one of the most iconic captains in Indian cricket history, he led the team to 21 Test victories and to the final of the 2003 World Cup. Apart from his playing career, Ganguly also served as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later became the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in October 2023.
Ganguly’s retirement from international cricket in 2008 marked the end of a remarkable era, with the left-handed batsman having left a lasting legacy in the cricketing world.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for his own exciting projects. He will soon be seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf, where he stars alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. The film’s teaser has generated curiosity, showcasing a mysterious time loop in a wedding ceremony, which leads to humor and confusion. Directed by Karan Sharma, the film is presented by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films in association with Amazon MGM Studios.
Additionally, Rajkummar Rao has Maalik lined up for release in 2025. The film, produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, will hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
