Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi today, after being admitted on June 15 for a stomach-related ailment, a senior hospital official confirmed.
Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman (Board of Management) at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said in an official statement, “Sonia Gandhi is stable and has been discharged today.“
The 78-year-old veteran Congress leader had been admitted under the care of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology for a stomach infection, which was successfully managed with conservative (non-surgical) treatment methods.
According to the hospital, her abdominal infection has improved significantly, and she will continue to receive treatment as an outpatient while being monitored closely by medical specialists. The hospital did not disclose further specific details regarding her condition.
Earlier updates from the hospital had described Sonia Gandhi’s condition as stable and improving. On June 16, Dr. Swaroop had stated that her health was being monitored carefully and her response to treatment was positive.
This is the second hospital visit for the Congress leader this month. On June 9, she underwent a medical check-up at the same hospital in Delhi.
Prior to this, on June 7, Sonia Gandhi had also visited Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, while vacationing in the hill town. According to hospital officials, that check-up was routine in nature and showed no signs of serious illness, though her blood pressure was slightly elevated at the time.
Sonia Gandhi is expected to rest and follow medical advice as part of her ongoing recovery.
Her party colleagues and supporters have expressed relief at her improving health condition and wished her a speedy and complete recovery.
