Mumbai, India – In a rare and candid interview with ETimes, actor and producer Sohail Khan has publicly addressed his divorce from Seema Sajdeh for the first time, revealing that their decision to separate after 24 years was driven by a desire to protect their children from the negative effects of marital conflict.
Sohail and Seema officially divorced in 2022. While Seema had previously spoken about the separation on the Netflix reality show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, Sohail has maintained a private stance until now.
In the interview, Sohail reflected on their long relationship, stating, “I have lived 24 years with Seema. She is a beautiful girl, and somewhere some things didn’t work out.” He emphasized that despite the split, there is “no bad blood” between them and that they continue to have a positive relationship as co-parents to their sons, Nirvan and Yohan. He mentioned that they make it a point to take their children on a family holiday once a year to enjoy themselves together.
The actor revealed that the main reason for their separation was the constant fighting, which they feared would have a lasting, negative impact on their sons. “When the husband and wife start fighting, it only affects the children,” Sohail said. “The ego that the husband and wife have, they don’t realize that it affects the children, and then the children start getting disturbed. So they are spoiling the next generation. They are corrupting the next generation, and not just their lives. Then your children will grow up to be disturbed human beings. That is what me and Seema decided—that we didn’t want that.”
Sohail and Seema had a whirlwind romance that led to a wedding in 1998, with the couple reportedly eloping and later having a Hindu and Islamic ceremony to honor both their families’ traditions.
The actor shared that he is “happier” than ever and has chosen to focus on spending time with his loved ones, including his sons and aging parents. He also revealed that he is making a return to direction with the film My Punjabi Nikaah.
