Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has made her first public appearance since her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal was unexpectedly postponed on November 23. Mandhana returned to Instagram on Friday, breaking her silence with a promotional post after nearly two weeks.
The wedding, originally set to take place in Sangli, was halted on the morning of the ceremony when Mandhana’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalised. A day later, Palash Muchhal too was admitted to a hospital. Both have since been discharged, although neither family has revealed a revised date for the ceremony.
Mandhana’s comeback to social media came through a paid partnership post for a popular toothpaste brand. The video itself was routine—featuring the star batter talking about the emotions of lifting India’s maiden women’s cricket World Cup trophy—but it quickly ignited discussion online. Fans immediately noticed that she was not wearing her engagement ring in the video.
This observation triggered widespread speculation. Some users wondered whether the video had been shot before her engagement, while others questioned the significance of the missing ring. A more rational section of fans pointed out that brand videos are often filmed much earlier and released later, urging others not to jump to conclusions.
The chatter only grew louder when fans noticed that Mandhana had deleted all wedding-related posts from her social media accounts. Many also commented on a perceived change in her voice and extended their support and well wishes.
Despite the online frenzy, both families have maintained that the postponement was strictly due to medical emergencies. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Palash’s mother, Amita Muchhal, said the situation had been emotionally challenging for everyone but remained hopeful that the wedding would take place soon.
Meanwhile, Palash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, told Filmfare that the families had been under immense scrutiny and that the entire episode had been emotionally taxing. She emphasised that both sides are trying to stay positive and move forward after an unexpected and stressful setback.
