Sri Lankan Airlines Flight From Chennai Searched In Colombo After Security Alert On Wanted Suspect

A Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Chennai to Colombo was subjected to a comprehensive security search on Friday, following a security alert issued by Indian authorities regarding a wanted suspect believed to be on board.

In an official statement, the airline confirmed that Flight UL 122, operating with aircraft 4R-ALS, arrived in Colombo at 11:59 AM on May 3 and was immediately searched in coordination with local security agencies.

“This measure was initiated following an alert from the Chennai Area Control Centre, which indicated the possible presence of a suspect wanted by Indian authorities,” the airline noted.

The search revealed no security threat, but due to the mandatory protocols and coordination efforts, the airline’s next scheduled departure—Flight UL 308 to Singapore—was delayed.

Sri Lankan Airlines apologized for the inconvenience caused and emphasized that passenger safety remains their top priority.

“We strive to ensure that the highest standards of safety are consistently maintained,” the statement added.

This incident comes amid growing regional security cooperation between India and Sri Lanka, especially in the domain of aviation and border safety.
