Skipper Brathwaite Identifies Key Factor Behind West Indies’ Defeat To Pakistan In 1st Test”

Multan [Pakistan], January 20: West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite has pinpointed the challenging pitch in Multan as the key reason behind his team’s 127-run defeat to Pakistan in the first Test of the series. Pakistan, powered by Sajid Khan’s impressive nine-wicket haul, triumphed by 127 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Brathwaite acknowledged the difficulty of batting on the pitch and expressed expectations of similar conditions for the second Test. “We expect the same type of pitch in the second Test, and we’ve got to come better. It was a difficult pitch to bat on for sure. But it’s their decision how they want the pitch. We’ve just got to come good,” he said, according to ESPNcricinfo.

Brathwaite also praised Jomel Warrican for his standout performance in the first Test, noting that the bowler’s hard work over the years had paid off with his first five-wicket haul. “Jomal has worked extremely hard over the years, and it’s good to see he got his first five-wicket haul. He bowled well and was consistent. I wish him all the best in the second Test,” he added.

Looking ahead, Brathwaite expressed hope for a stronger all-round performance in the second Test. “I think we could improve bowling-wise. We gave them 50-60 runs too much in the first innings because the pitch spun from ball one, and we could have created enough pressure on the batters to get more wickets. We also didn’t bat as well as we could have. Alick [Athanaze] showed us today how easy it can be. We need to be braver in our shot selection,” he said.

The West Indies captain emphasized that a better all-round performance could lead to victory in the second Test, with his team looking to bounce back after the loss.

Pakistan’s spinners dominated the match, with Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, and Abrar Ahmed claiming all 20 wickets, setting a world record for consecutive home matches where Pakistan’s spinners took every wicket.
