Situation normal at Jammu, Poonch; no shelling reported overnight

No fresh firing reported in Jammu and Poonch overnight, but Amritsar remains on high alert as India warns Pakistan over repeated ceasefire violations and prepares for any escalation.

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), May 11:
After a tense weekend marked by intense shelling and heightened military activity, the situation in Jammu and Poonch remained calm on Sunday, with no reports of drone movement, cross-border firing, or shelling during the night of May 10-11.

While the return to calm has brought temporary relief to residents, security agencies continue to maintain heightened vigilance amid the fragile ceasefire and ongoing border tensions with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, in Amritsar, the District Collector has issued a fresh red alert, urging residents to stay indoors and away from windows, citing precautionary measures amidst regional security threats.

“We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don’t panic,” read the official advisory issued Sunday morning.

Earlier at 4:39 AM, the District Collector had already cautioned locals to switch off lights and avoid windows, balconies, roads, and terraces, emphasizing the need for utmost caution during this period of uncertainty.

🇮🇳 India’s Stern Warning to Pakistan

India, on Saturday, formally accused Pakistan of violating a ceasefire understanding reached earlier in the day between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.

At a special press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said:

“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier today between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations, and we take very serious note of these developments.”

Calling for responsibility and restraint, Misri urged Pakistan to immediately address the breaches and act with seriousness, adding that India’s Armed Forces are fully authorized to respond firmly to any further violations along both the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).

“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri said.
“The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vigil. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any repetition of border violations.”

⚠️ Heightened Security Continues

Although the night passed peacefully in the sensitive border districts of Jammu and Poonch, authorities remain on high alert. The Indian Army continues to monitor the border areas closely, ready to respond decisively to any new act of aggression or provocation.

Residents in border towns have been advised to remain vigilant, keep emergency supplies ready, and follow all official advisories. Security forces remain deployed across strategic points to prevent infiltration and monitor drone activity.

🔴 Red Alert in Amritsar: Civilian Safety Priority

The unusual red alert issued in Amritsar underlines the civilian safety protocols being enforced across the region in light of the escalation. The restoration of power is being managed cautiously, and local authorities have activated sirens to notify residents of any changes in threat levels.

The red alert advisory, a rare move in peacetime, has prompted schools and public institutions to prepare emergency response plans.

📍 What Lies Ahead

As diplomatic channels remain open but tense, India has made it clear that it will not tolerate cross-border provocations. The military standoff, following strikes and retaliatory action over the weekend, has pushed the situation into a critical phase, requiring both strategic patience and readiness.

For now, the hope remains that diplomatic engagement will prevail over military escalation, but on the ground, preparedness is the priority.

Further updates are expected as the situation evolves across Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and northern border districts.
