CHENNAI: Singer and former radio jockey Suchitra has made a series of explosive allegations against her fiancé, Chennai-based High Court lawyer Shunmugaraj, accusing him of domestic violence, financial fraud, and taking over her Chennai residence.
In a recent Instagram video, the singer claimed she was emotionally and physically abused throughout their relationship and announced her intention to take legal action against him. Suchitra, who has been in the public eye for years and was at the center of the infamous “Suchi Leaks” controversy, revealed that she was “almost engaged” to Shunmugaraj, whom she had known for a long time.
Suchitra said Shunmugaraj “walked into my life like a saviour” after the “Suchi Leaks” episode, but then proceeded to manipulate her emotionally and isolate her from her friends. She alleged that he took advantage of her vulnerable state following the 2017 controversy, which involved the release of private and explicit content from her social media account, affecting several Tamil celebrities.
In the video, Suchitra described the physical abuse she allegedly endured, saying, “I was beaten several times. He kicked me with his boots like a WWF wrestler. I used to sit in a corner and cry, asking him to stop.” She also claimed that she was thrown out of her own Chennai home, forcing her to move to Mumbai a few months ago after finding a new job.
Beyond the physical and emotional abuse, Suchitra has also accused Shunmugaraj of significant financial fraud. “He took away all my money,” she said in the video. “I sound so stupid saying this, but it’s true. He used my house, my resources, and left me with nothing.” She has publicly stated her resolve to take him to court to reclaim her assets, declaring, “I will chase him till he pays back every single paisa.”
The singer also alleged that Shunmugaraj lied about his marital status. “I later found out he was never divorced. His first wife even came to me, begging to take him back,” she stated.
In a separate social media post, Suchitra shared what she claims is proof that Shunmugaraj used her home address on his Aadhaar card without her consent. She has since disabled comments on her social media posts to avoid personal attacks, explaining that she “really loved him” and that’s why she had been so trusting.
At the time of this report, neither Shunmugaraj nor his legal representatives have issued a response to the allegations.
