Los Angeles [US], July 9: Bridgerton star Simone Ashley has officially joined the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2, as reported by Deadline.
The British actress will appear alongside returning stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Renowned actor Kenneth Branagh is also joining the much-anticipated sequel.
According to Deadline, the sequel continues the story of the 2006 fashion drama, with Meryl Streep reprising her role as the iconic editor Miranda Priestly. The plot revolves around Miranda navigating the decline of print media while her former assistant, Emily Charlton (played by Blunt), has risen to become a top fashion executive. The two are set to face off in a battle for advertising dominance. Branagh is cast as Miranda’s husband.
Simone Ashley rose to fame for her role as Kate Sharma in Bridgerton. She also featured in Disney’s The Little Mermaid as Indira and starred in Netflix’s Sex Education.
The original Devil Wears Prada was a global success, earning over $326 million and securing two Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Meryl Streep.
David Frankel returns as director, with original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also back for the sequel. Filming is currently underway, and the movie is set to release on May 1.
