Gangtok (Sikkim) [India], June 14: Sikkim Health Minister GT Dhungel on Saturday confirmed that the state currently has 57 active COVID-19 cases, while assuring the public that the health department is fully prepared to manage the situation.
Speaking to reporters, Dhungel said:
“We have recorded 57 active cases as of today from across the state. The entire department is well-prepared, and all doctors, nurses, and technicians have been put on alert. The rooms have been equipped with adequate beds, medicines, and other necessary equipment.”
Mild Surge in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh
Elsewhere, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are also reporting a slight increase in COVID-19 cases. However, authorities in both states have said that the situation is under control.
In Rajasthan, Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, Director of the Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, noted a daily average of 30–35 new cases, with one death recorded.
“We are seeing 30–35 cases of COVID every day in the state. We have sufficient stock of medicines,” Sharma said, adding that the deceased patient had comorbid tuberculosis.
In Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, several junior doctors at Gajra Raja Medical College have tested positive for COVID-19. Dr RKS Dhakad, Dean of the college, confirmed that 6 to 7 doctors were affected.
“The situation is not serious. All cases are mild and under observation. Guidelines have already been issued,” he added.
National Situation
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s dashboard, India reported:
- 7,131 active cases
- 10,976 recoveries
(as of June 13, 2025)
While the national numbers remain relatively low, the recent rise in localized infections has prompted state-level health departments to remain vigilant, especially in view of public mobility, monsoon season, and potential variant mutations.
