Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 16: Filmmaker Siddharth Anand and his wife Mamta Bhatia-Anand were seen at Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday, where they visited Saif Ali Khan, who is receiving treatment after a scuffle with an intruder at his Bandra residence late Wednesday night.
The incident, which took place at the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building in Bandra, has sent shockwaves through both the public and the film industry. According to police reports, the confrontation began when an intruder approached Khan’s maid. When Saif Ali Khan attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, the intruder became aggressive, leading to a physical altercation in which the actor sustained injuries. He was subsequently rushed to Lilavati Hospital for medical attention.
Siddharth Anand, who has collaborated with Saif in films like Salaam Namaste (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), is also the producer of the upcoming heist thriller Jewel Thief – The Red Sun Chapter, in which Saif will star alongside Jaideep Ahlawat.
A statement from Saif Ali Khan’s PR team confirmed the incident, calling it an attempted burglary. “There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently undergoing surgery at the hospital. We request the media and fans to be patient as this is a police matter,” the message read.
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, provided further details on Saif’s condition. “Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an unidentified person at his house. He was brought in at 3:00 am by his son Taimur Ali Khan and their caretaker. He has six wounds caused by sharp objects, including two deep wounds, one of which is near his spine. A small foreign body near the spine was also identified. He is undergoing surgery under the care of Dr. Nitin Dange (Consultant Neurosurgeon), Dr. Leena Jain (Consultant Plastic Surgeon), Dr. Nisha Gandhi (Consultant Anaesthesiologist), Dr. Kavita Srinivas (Intensivist), and Dr. Manoj Deshmukh (Consultant Radiologist). The full extent of the damage will be understood once the surgery is completed.”
Following the news, actress Pooja Bhatt took to her official X handle to express her concern, urging the Mumbai Police to increase security in Bandra, which is home to many high-profile individuals. “Can this lawlessness please be curbed @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice? We need more police presence in Bandra. The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, has never felt so unsafe before,” she wrote.
Chef Kunal Kapoor also shared his shock on Instagram, posting, “Stunned to hear about the attack on Saif. Praying for his speedy recovery. #saif #saifalikhan.”
Jr NTR, who recently worked with Saif Ali Khan in Devara Part 1, expressed his sorrow on social media. “Shocked and saddened to hear about the attack on Saif sir. Wishing and praying for his speedy recovery and good health,” he wrote.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has launched an investigation into the matter. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dixit Gedam, confirmed on Thursday that the altercation between Khan and the intruder resulted in injuries to the actor, and investigations are ongoing.
On the professional front, Saif Ali Khan was last seen in Devara Part 1, an action-packed thriller released in September 2024.
